IV Laser Therapy: Types, Benefits & More

IV Laser Therapy, also known as Intravenous Laser Therapy or Intravenous Laser Blood Irradiation, is a medical treatment that involves the application of low-level laser light to the bloodstream through an intravenous catheter. This therapy is based on the principle that light energy can have beneficial effects on the body’s cells and tissues.

The inserted light energy is absorbed by cells in the interstitial tissue and blood circulation system, spread out to all weakened or sick cells, which can thereby regenerate their functions and metabolism.

Various biological effects of the laser light (e.g., decongestant, and spasmolytic effects, activation of circulation and metabolism) boost the desired effects on the diseased tissue and on the body in general.

IV Laser Therapy improves circulation, enhances cellular metabolism, stimulates the immune system, reduces inflammation, and promotes tissue healing. It is believed that the laser light energy can activate certain biochemical reactions in the blood, leading to these therapeutic effects.

On the cellular level, the laser light is absorbed by the different complexes of the respiratory chain in the mitochondria, which leads to increased production of the energy molecule ATP, stabilization of the cell membrane, and improvement of the cellular metabolism.

But why laser light and not the ordinary light? That is because laser light is: more intense, directional, monochromatic, and coherent.

Types of IV Laser Therapy

We have 5 types of lasers, RED, BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW, and ULTRA-VIOLET:

Red Light Therapy:

Red light therapy activates ATP-production in blood cells, leading to increased energy, improved circulation, neuron function, and immune defense.

Yellow Light Therapy:

Yellow light therapy improves serotonin, and vitamin D metabolism. That is why yellow laser is good for depression, anxiety, bones, and connective tissue disorders.

Green Light Therapy:

Green light therapy has a strong anti-inflammatory effect. That is why green laser is therapeutically used for prevention of infection, treating inflammatory swelling and ulcers

Blue Light Therapy:

Blue laser boosts the immune system, speeding wound healing, due to anti-bacterial, and ant-inflammatory effects.

Ultraviolet Light Therapy:

Is used as a non-toxic, drug free means of treating blood borne viruses.

Physiological Benefits of IV Laser Therapy:

  • Improvement of circulation, and reduction of platelets aggregation
  • Improvement of oxygen supply
  • Reduction of the inflammatory marker CRP
  • Stimulation of the immune system
  • Improvement of energy production by increased production of ATP in the cellular mitochondria
  • Stimulation of DNA repair mechanisms
  • Improvement of red blood cells deformability
  • Spasmolytic and anti-inflammatory effects
  • Stabilization of nervous irritability through stabilization of nerve cell membranes

IV Laser Therapy Offers Treatment for a Wide Range of Indications:

  • Diabetes, with all its complications
  • Back pain, disc herniation, osteoarthritis
  • Auto-immune diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple sclerosis……. etc.
  • Hypertension
  • Burn-out syndrome
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia
  • Depression
  • Panic Attacks, and anxiety disorder
  • Allergies and eczema
  • Tinnitus
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Coronary Artery Disease
  • Renal Insufficiency

Important Considerations: Contraindications for IV Laser Therapy:

  • Pregnancy
  • Bleeding disorders, and use of anti-coagulants and anti-platelets
  • Photosensitivity: Precaution
  • Active cancer: In individuals with active cancer, IV Laser Therapy may stimulate the growth of cancer cells or interfere with ongoing cancer treatments. It is generally contraindicated in these cases.
  • Thyroid conditions: Certain thyroid conditions, such as hyperthyroidism, can be exacerbated using IV Laser Therapy.
  • Severe cardiovascular conditions, such as unstable angina, acute myocardial infarction, or severe congestive heart failure, should avoid IV Laser Therapy due to the potential risk of complications.
  • Epilepsy or seizure disorders: IV Laser Therapy involves exposure to light, which can trigger seizures in individuals with a history of epilepsy or seizure disorders. Precautions should be taken to minimize the risk.

Administering IV laser Therapy:

  • Each color can be given up to 20 minutes
  • Total time for multicolor session is max 1 hour
  • 10-15 minutes for each color is good enough
  • Intensity: start at 50%, then you may increase up to 100%, in case it is required, especially with the red and blue laser.
  • Session’s frequency: daily, for 10 days, or 2-3 sessions / week, for a total of 10 sessions
  • Per year, IV laser therapy can be repeated 1-2 times / year
  • For chronic and autoimmune diseases, 3-4 / year
  • Can be combine with any of our IV drips, especially, NAD+, Super detox, Immune Boost, Ultimate
